September 28, 2007 -- I saw another disappointing film by director Ang Lee after Brokeback Mountain - Lust Caution. In this film full of naked sexual desire scenes, as 90 minutes passed, I almost fell asleep.
The movie was filmed in a studio that reconstructed Shanghai and Hong Kong during World War II. "Lust Caution" can be described as lengthy, without suspense or chemistry. It is adapted from a short novel by Eileen Chang, telling the story of a young anti-Japanese activist who eventually turns into a collaborator's mistress.
The story is filled with the nostalgia found in Paul Verhoeven's "Black Book," but Ang Lee lacks the skill in plot design found in Paul Verhoeven's works...
