Sophia is a sex counselor but has never experienced an orgasm herself, and for all these years she's been faking it with her husband. She meets Savin, a dominatrix, who begins to take her under her wing. Sophia also has clients in the form of a gay male couple, James and Jamie, who talk to her about their sexual relationship. James proposes that he and Jamie engage in a three-some, and Jamie seems reluctant. James appears to be executing a secret plan of sorts. His actions are witnessed by Caleb, a peeping tom. All characters ultimately converge at the Short Bus Salon, a confluence of art, music, politics and sexual madness. The film offers its own take on the unique pressures facing America in the post-9/11 era and suggests new strategies for reconciliation as New York City teems with spiritual questions, carnal pleasures and the need for connection.
