After years of warfare and life-and-death battles, the brave crusader Beman (Nicolas Cage) and his close buddy Felsen (Ralph Pilman) finally got the chance to return home. Crossing seas and oceans, walking through deserts, they eventually returned to their hometown. They thought they would be welcomed by golden wheat fields, warm beds, and delicious meals, but instead, they found nothing but devastation - countless deaths, abandoned villages, neglected farmland, rampant famine, and funeral bells ringing endlessly for new victims. The root cause of this human tragedy was a plague called the Black Death, which had already taken the lives of millions of innocent people and showed no signs of stopping. People began to believe that it must be a curse from hell cast by witches with the help of demons.

After a unanimous decision by the church elders, a seemingly frail girl named Anna (Claire Foy) was identified as a mysterious and evil black witch. Ordered by the dying Cardinal D'Ambro (Christopher Lee), Beman, known as a legendary warrior, was entrusted with the mission to escort Anna to a remote monastery where the monks would carry out her destruction. However, when he saw the girl with beautiful and innocent eyes, Beman could not bring himself to believe that this weak woman who couldn't hurt a fly was the messenger of hell causing all these disasters.

With provisions ready, Beman and Felsen set off on their mission as ordered. Accompanying them were Pastor Deboseco, the grief-stricken knight Eckhart, and the stubborn young Kay, among others. If the dangerous wilderness and arduous journey could not deter their determination to complete the task on schedule, then the eerie tales of witchcraft and the hostile crowds along the way made them shiver involuntarily. What awaited them? Was it the ultimate judgment of the Heavenly Father? The demonic laughter from hell? Or an inexplicable madness and deception?
