The story takes place in the year 2145, at a scientific research station located in a desolate and remote area of Mars. The Mars Fleet Headquarters receives a weak distress signal from the region where an important experiment on genetic code decryption is being conducted. If the situation in this area gets out of control, it will undoubtedly cause a great calamity for all of humanity.
The Mars Fleet dispatches a special forces unit led by the brave Sergeant Sagat (played by Dwayne Johnson), known as the Rapid Response Tactical Squad (RRTS), to carry out the rescue mission. The team also includes several highly skilled special operatives with nicknames such as Goat, Kid, Thunderstorm, Demolitionist, and Reaper.
When the RRTS arrives at the scientific research station, they find it transformed into a hellish nightmare. A large number of unidentified and terrifying creatures have attacked, killing all the humans there. The only thing the RRTS can do is seal off the passage to Earth using an immune isolation system, then fight a desperate battle with every ultimate weapon they have to annihilate these demonic monsters...
*DOOM* is one of the greatest first-person shooter games in PC history, ushering in a new era in gaming. However, it wasn't until the third installment of Doom that it was officially adapted for the big screen. Universal Pictures invested heavily in making this film, hiring director Andrei Baciu, known for *Cradle 2 the Grave*, and bringing in not only the red-hot Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson but also Karl Urban, who played Eomer in *The Lord of the Rings*. To maintain the classic status of Doom in the hearts of PC gamers, the film stays highly faithful to the original game's world view and, like the game, does not shy away from depicting violence. The film even features the iconic BFG weapon from the Doom series.
So far, no movie based on a video game has been particularly outstanding. Urban has already told reporters that this movie will be as bloody as the video game. People can only hope that besides being thrilling, the movie will also be somewhat entertaining.
