Last Sunday, the Six Man Movie Salon watched The Queen, and I was the host. Even though it was my third time watching it, I still noticed some details that I hadn't paid attention to before.
When Prince Charles praised Diana to his mother (Queen Elizabeth II) by saying "How wonderful she was", he mentioned that Diana never hesitated to express her feelings when her children needed her (roughly so, I can't remember the exact words). The Queen immediately responded with, "Especially when there are reporters taking pictures." This one sentence clearly indicates why the Queen didn't like Diana - Diana loved being in the spotlight and was very good at using the media to gain advantages for herself. However, the Queen's belief is that royal family members should not express their feelings in public, and that responsibility always comes first, before emotions. This is also one of the reasons why the Queen was reluctant to show concern about Diana's death under public pressure (the main reason being that she didn't like Diana). But in modern British society, the public wants to see a more sincere and humane queen. The British public is no longer the same as what the Queen understands (That's the way we do things in this country, quietly with dignity).
From a certain perspective (this might be a bit controversial, haha), Diana's death could be seen as somewhat self-inflicted. She was good at utilizing media exposure, but was overly disturbed by the media, which eventually led to tragedy.
Another interesting detail is that Blair's wife said that Blair was willing to help the Queen resolve the credibility crisis (from a personal emotional point of view) because the Queen is the same age as Blair's mother and they have similar personalities - conservative, resilient, and willing to sacrifice. This actually implies Blair's Oedipus complex. From his two meetings with the Queen, especially the one after the crisis was resolved, Blair's expression was obviously very eager and happy, and he was very willing to communicate with the Queen.
The movie poster is well designed. The Queen occupies a corner on the lower left, while Diana takes up a large portion of the background, implying the relationship between the Queen and Diana.
