2012 Film Review:
China Saves the World? The movie "2012", which cost over $200 million (approximately HK$1.56 billion), is set to premiere in mainland China today. The film depicts various parts of the world suffering from volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis. While the Chinese People's Liberation Army rescues Americans, China takes on the heavy responsibility of building Noah's Ark, saving survivors, and rebuilding civilization. Even before its release, the film has already caused extreme excitement among mainlanders. Audience members at preview screenings couldn't help but exclaim: "Too thrilling! Finally, it's our turn to save the Earth!" A scholar from Beijing criticized this phenomenon, stating, "This precisely reflects the current rise of a great power; Chinese people only want to hear praise and pleasing words, revealing a self-inflated mindset."
