"The Scarlet Plum Blossom," a 24-episode modern romantic drama series, is adapted from the eponymous novel by modern Chinese literary master Liu Yunruo. Renowned for its bold portrayal of romance and its twisting, touching storyline, the novel has been brought to life through the passionate performances of celebrated actresses Zhu Yuanyuan and Xie Lan.
"The Scarlet Plum Blossom" tells a story set in the Jiangnan region during the 1930s. One day, Lin Baiping, who works at a newspaper, returns home to discover his wife Lin Zhihua in bed with his good friend Bian Zhongying. Despite his anger, he still believes that his wife did not intentionally betray him but was overcome by her emotions. He decides to let them be together, resigns from his job, and leaves home. He arrives in another city where he becomes the private tutor for Miss Liu Ruyan, the daughter of the Liu family. The pure and charming Ruyan feels as if she's been trapped inside her home forever. Now, upon meeting a man—such a refined and gentlemanly one at that—how could she contain herself?
