Introduction of The Proposal:
(By BCM) Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is the executive editor-in-chief of a US publishing house. Her strict and efficient manner makes all her colleagues feel intimidated, including Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), who has been hoping to become an editor but has never been recognized.
Margaret is too focused on her work that she neglects some legal issues. When she is suddenly informed that she will be deported back to her home country Canada and might even lose her job, she has to "admit" that she is about to marry Andrew. Andrew reluctantly agrees to Margaret's marriage scheme, but one of the conditions is that he will eventually get the editor position.
As government officials start investigating whether they are really a couple, they are forced to spend the weekend in Andrew's hometown in Alaska to prove that they are truly planning to get married. There, Margaret meets Andrew's friendly yet eccentric large family members, including Andrew's hospitable mother Grace (Mary Steenburgen), his domineering father Joe (Greg T. Nelsen), and the straightforward and mischievous 90-year-old matriarch Annie (Betty White)... However, the family doesn't know their true relationship, so they have to hide it and end up causing a lot of laughter. Meanwhile, a chemistry begins to develop between Margaret and Andrew...
