In 300 BC, during the Qin Dynasty in China, the Qin army stationed on the northern grasslands beyond the Great Wall captured a woman during a battle with a local tribe. The commander of the Qin army, Lu Shen Kang, took possession of this woman. The woman told Lu Shen Kang that if a foreign man were to become her husband for seven nights, they would both turn into wolves. After spending seven days and nights together, Lu Shen Kang and the woman indeed transformed into wolves. Several years later, during the transition between the Qin and Han dynasties, the wolf disasters along the Great Wall continued frequently. "The Legend of the Wolf Disaster" is the first historical epic directed by renowned Chinese director Tian Zhuangzhuang.
Tian Zhuangzhuang, known for his artistic films among the fifth generation of Chinese directors, has ambitions to try commercial production with this film. The male and female leads are respectively Japanese ultra-popular male star Jo Odagiri and sexy actress Maggie Q who is famous both domestically and internationally.
This film is adapted from a novel by Japanese writer Yasushi Inoue, telling a beautiful legend passed down for a thousand years in western China. Since his previous movie "Go", Tian Zhuangzhuang has increasingly revealed his desire to align with mainstream large-scale film productions.
