"Storm II" was adapted from Ma Rongcheng's comics, and production began in March 2008. The film was heavily invested in by Universe Entertainment with a budget of 100 million yuan, aiming to make "Storm II" the most perfect special effects comic movie in Hong Kong history. Producer Lin Xiaoming emphasized: "The entire filming process of 'Storm II' used studio sets and blue screens, which is the first time ever for a Hong Kong movie. The post-production special effects will be made without any expense spared, with the goal of creating an extremely impactful movie."
"Storm II" features numerous special effects scenes, handled by Fat Face Production Ltd., who received unanimous praise for their work on "Ghost Domain" and "The Warlords." Gao Hui, the founder of Fat Face Production Ltd., even won the Best Visual Effects Award at the 26th Hong Kong Film Awards. The post-production process for "Storm II" will take over a year, and Universe Entertainment plans to release the film simultaneously in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and all across Asia at the end of 09.
Based on Ma Rongcheng's comics and directed by the Pang Brothers (Pang Fa and Pang Shun), the Chinese special effects martial arts film "Storm II" has released a new clip. The clip showcases Aaron Kwok's character, Bu Jingyun, encountering a masked swordsman at the Guanhai Pavilion. The two engage in a duel using their sword qi. Bu Jingyun uses the "Yun Shi" technique to shatter his opponent's mask, only to be shocked to find his own master Wuming (played by He Jiajin).
The Pang Brothers were once the editors for "Storm: The Invincible Under Heaven" a decade ago, and they have now become renowned international Chinese directors. "Storm II" is not a sequel to "Storm: The Invincible Under Heaven," but rather another segment from the classic comic "Storm," with a style that differs greatly from traditional martial arts films. "Storm II" also marks the first time Hollywood's blue screen technology was introduced into Chinese cinema. The stunning visual effects from "300" have generated much anticipation for this new style of movie that combines blue screen technology with traditional Chinese martial arts. The computer-generated imagery and colors are the biggest advantages for the Pang Brothers in continuing the Storm saga. The special effects for the film were created by the renowned Hong Kong-based special effects company Fat Face Production, who previously worked on "Ghost Domain" and "The Warlords."
"Storm II" is scheduled for simultaneous release in Hong Kong and Mainland China on December 17th of this year, targeting the New Year season.
