Plot Introduction of "Love in the Next Life"
The story tells of Ajiu and Aming from a previous life who could not be together due to hatred between their families. Aming became a monk but still met an end of being killed. In the final grudge killing, both Ajiu and Aming died under a thousand-year-old ginkgo tree. Before dying, Ajiu made an appointment with Aming to meet again in the next life. In the next life, she would come back to this ginkgo tree to find him, no matter what form they had taken. They would reunite once again, free from all ties of hatred... They would wholeheartedly fall in love again...
After Ajiu's death, she hurriedly went to reincarnate... But Aming, fearing that Ajiu might come to the ginkgo tree at any time, dared not leave, missing the opportunity for reincarnation. Yu Feihong's first directorial work - the romance blockbuster "Love in the Next Life" - is hailed as the Chinese period version of "Ghost." Yesterday afternoon, Yu Feihong met with the media alongside popular young actor Duan Yihong, interpreting this work she had been nurturing for ten years. In the film, Yu Feihong plays two roles, engaging in a timeless "human-ghost obsession" with Duan Yihong.
Because of TV dramas like "Holding Hands" and "Gallop Laughing West Wind," Yu Feihong became well-known. However, after the great success of "Holding Hands," she chose to retire at the height of her career and study abroad. When she returned to the audience's view, she brought her own movie "Love in the Next Life," where she served as producer, director, and lead actress. Adapted from the novel "Ginkgo, Ginkgo," the film, with an investment of 40 million yuan, took ten years from scriptwriting to completion.
Regarding the transition, Yu Feihong believed it was a natural progression. "I read this novel when I was in my twenties and fell in love with it at first sight. Later, I couldn't forget this novel. I recommended it to many directors, but none of them felt as strongly about it as I did. I kept asking myself why I didn't shoot it myself. So after securing funding, I disregarded everything else and became the director."
"Love in the Next Life" revolves around a ginkgo tree, telling a "unfinished ghost-human love" story, thus earning the reputation as a model of China's new Liaozhai films. Yu Feihong said that although the movie involves ghost content, its true essence is actually an age-old theme: a love that can transcend the boundaries of time and space is eternal.
The series "Soldier Outrage" and "My Colonel, My Regiment" showcased Duan Yihong's tough side, whereas in "Love in the Next Life," he transforms into a gentle and sentimental character. Yu Feihong joked, "This time, he will show his tender side, definitely gaining more female fans." Duan Yihong also expressed gratitude to the director for opening another door for him, discovering more possibilities within himself, "The audience will surely see a different Duan Yihong."
In the movie, Duan Yihong plays the 'devoted ghost' who deeply loved Ajiu, portrayed by Yu Feihong, in the previous life. Due to family reasons, they were separated by life and death. After Duan Yihong's death, his lonely soul remained under the ginkgo tree, waiting for his already reincarnated lover for fifty years. Every day, Duan Yihong, as a ghost, would have a conversation with this life's Yu Feihong under the ginkgo tree, and all the memories of the previous life would reappear through Duan Yihong's narration.
When asked about his experience working with a beautiful director, Duan Yihong seriously said, "The first time I met Yu Feihong, she spent two hours telling me this story. I was actually moved by the director's personal talent and charm."
