Film Introduction:

Georges Bataille was a famous contemporary French writer who is still unjustly treated today. His "erotic description" and "lower materialism" (le bas materialisme) concepts have caused a great stir in the literary and philosophical circles. However, there is no denying that his works are exemplary models of the combination of literature and philosophy. He was well-versed and had complicated ideas, with his works involving all fields including philosophy, ethics, theology, and literature, covering even the taboos. His works show a rebellious spirit, and he often unintentionally brings readers a unique perspective. He is known as "one of the ideological birthplaces of postmodernism." His representative works include Inner Experience, The Obnoxious Part, Literature and Evil, and History of Eroticism.

The novel Story of the Eye was initially understood as purely erotic content, but now the critics no longer think so. Through the philosophical imagery segmentation in this novel, Bataille constructs both special and ordinary objects: eyes, eggs, sun, earth, and testicles. With the relative fusion among people, spirits, objects, and religions, he explains the connection between the philosophical level and emotional depth.

In the vivid and spectacular bullfighting arena, a young woman (Simone) watching the game is troubled by her past sexual experiences.
