On August 26th, at the 2009 China International Film and Television Program Exhibition, Jiangsu Tian Di Zong Heng Film and Television Culture Investment Co., Ltd. first released the trailer for the urban commoner-themed TV series "The Happiness of the Eldest Brother." Fan Wei stars as the lead male character, "the eldest brother," in this film.
It is reported that "the eldest brother" is a grassroots version of "Old Zhuang," a somewhat famous foot therapist from Shuncheng in Northeast China. He treats foot therapy as his career. He has raised four younger brothers and sisters on his own. When they all become successful individuals, they look down upon their eldest brother's job of massaging people's feet and want him to change his way of living.
"The Happiness of the Eldest Brother" took three months to shoot, with scenes filmed in both Huludao, Liaoning, and Beijing. As the director and producer of the show, Li Lu introduced that "The Happiness of the Eldest Brother" is not a traditional Northeastern comedy. The drama not only showcases the local customs and sentiments of Northeast China but also integrates the modern fashionable elements of Beijing. It is a contemporary urban commoner drama filled with life texture, profound themes, and a style that blends seriousness with humor. In the show, Fan Wei plays the role of the eldest brother. Fan Wei, who has portrayed many small characters, vividly brings this representative of the common people to life. As Li Lu puts it, this eldest brother is a grassroots version of Old Zhuang, and his every word and action are worth pondering and appreciating by the audience.
In addition to Fan Wei, "The Happiness of the Eldest Brother" also features many well-known actors such as Sun Ning, Meng Guangmei, Jin Qiaoqiao, Zhou Haodong, and Gao Yalin. Li Lu introduced that currently, "The Happiness of the Eldest Brother" is undergoing post-production work, and it is expected to meet television audiences by the end of the year.
