Introduction to The Neighbor's Lawn:

It is reported that the Japanese drama series The Neighbor's Lawn, which caused a sensation across Japan in 1976 and led to popular phrases about mother-in-law and daughter-in-law conflicts, starring Yoko Yamamoto and the late actress Sadako Sawamura, will be remade this summer on TBS television station. This time it will star Seyo Asaka and Sen Heiko.

The Neighbor's Lawn is the starting work of Shoukatsu Hashida, the highly popular writer of the long-running series Warm Spring, Cold Winter, broadcast as a NHK TV novel in 1976. The drama tells the story of a conflict between a woman who has married into a white-collar family and is diligently working as a housewife, and her mother-in-law who has left her eldest son's home and moved in with them. Back then, the battle between Yoko Yamamoto and Sadako Sawamura left an indelible impression on viewers and made "the neighbor's lawn" a popular phrase for describing mother-in-law and daughter-in-law issues at the time.

TBS producer Akai Mitsuaki said: "The relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law remains an eternal theme even today." Therefore, it was decided to remake this drama after 33 years, and the original author Shoukatsu Hashida herself also modernized the work. The new daughter-in-law of the 21st century will be played by Seyo Asaka, and Akai Producer said: "She has a strong presence enough to stand up to Sen Heiko who plays the mother-in-law." This is also Seyo Asaka's first performance in a Shoukatsu Hashida work.

Kindly giving gifts to her mother-in-law, only to be loudly scolded and told she doesn't want anything from her, while the man caught between the two chooses to ignore it all. This leaves the pitiful housewife as the daughter-in-law at her wit's end. Seyo Asaka has had a rich acting career, but since marrying V6 member Kihachiro Inohara in September 2007, this is her first time portraying such a life-like housewife.

In the drama, Seyo Asaka is also the mother of two elementary school students. She enthusiastically stated: "This is my first time playing both a daughter-in-law and a mother, I will strive not to be overwhelmed by Ms. Sen Heiko's charisma."

Sen Heiko, who plays the sharp-tongued old woman opposing her daughter-in-law Seyo Asaka, was constantly treated this way by her mother-in-law in Warm Spring, Cold Winter. Now the roles have reversed, and she can vent the frustrations she endured in Warm Spring, Cold Winter onto Seyo Asaka. Regarding this, Sen Heiko said: "Although I understand Seyo Asaka's feelings myself having acted it out, I will spare no effort in bullying her properly."

Additionally, these two women of different ages and experiences, who are adversaries in the drama, when discussing their impressions of men, both agree that men tend to have some form of恋母情结 (Oedipus complex).
