Happiness will come tomorrow.
Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a smart salesman. He works hard but can't seem to give his family a good life. His wife, Linda, eventually leaves Chris because she can't bear the pressure of making ends meet, leaving him to raise their 5-year-old son, Christopher, all by himself. With his career in shambles and now a single father, Chris has only $21 left in his bank account. Because he couldn't pay the rent, he and his son were evicted from their apartment.
Chris finally got an internship at a prestigious stock investment company, but there was no salary during the internship, and 90% of people didn't succeed in the end. But Chris knows this is his last chance, the only way to a happy life. Without income or a place to stay, the only thing Chris has is his son's unconditional trust and love.
They had nowhere to go at night, so they slept in shelters, subway stations, public bathrooms, and any available space where they could temporarily stay; during the day, with no money for food, they stood in line for welfare and ate barely enough food to fill their stomachs. The poverty of life is incredibly frustrating, but for his son's future and his own beliefs, Chris gritted his teeth and always believed: As long as you work hard today, happiness will come tomorrow! Hard work pays off, and Chris eventually becomes a successful investment expert.
