Plot Introduction:

"Silver Empire" describes the Shanxi draft bank "Tianchengyuan", which can be considered the "financial giant" of the Qing Dynasty. It controlled national finance, operated deposit and loan businesses, and at its peak owned twenty-three branches across China as well as in Russia, Mongolia, Japan, and Southeast Asia, with wealth rivaling that of a nation. The main focus of this film is the story of succession between two generations of the "Tianchengyuan" commercial empire. Besides the entangled triangular love story involving the father and son with an extraordinary woman, it also uses this process of succession to portray the ideological dispute between Legalism and Confucianism in Chinese thought. Through the depiction of historical events such as rampant kidnappers, the Eight-Nation Alliance, and the Xinhai Revolution, the film highlights the spirit of righteousness valued by Jin merchants, setting them apart from others - the importance of merchants upholding justice.
