Empire of Silver Plot Introduction

"Empire of Silver" depicts the Shanxi draft bank "Tianchengyuan," which can be considered the 'financial giant' of the Qing Dynasty. The main storyline of this film focuses on the succession between two generations of the "Tianchengyuan" business empire. Beyond the entangled triangular romance involving the father and son with an extraordinary woman, it also uses this process of succession to express the ethical debate between China's two major ideological systems - Legalism and Confucianism. In the film, through the background display of a series of historical events such as rampant bandits, the Eight-Nation Alliance, and the Xinhai Revolution, it highlights the spirit of righteousness valued by Jin merchants, which sets them apart from others - the principle that merchants should value righteousness.
