Introduction to "Up":

Among the city's steel and concrete jungle, there is an old-fashioned house located amidst towering buildings. The owner of this house is an elderly man named Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Edward Asner). Since the passing of his wife Ellie, Carl, who was already somewhat reticent, has become even more silent and withdrawn. Reflecting on the past days he spent with Ellie, they had repeatedly dreamed of going on an adventure to Paradise Falls in South America. However, the two were always too busy making ends meet to find time to complete this journey. Living alone, Carl gradually realizes that many youthful ideals were forgotten in the hustle and bustle of life. Should he just live out the rest of his life with regret? At this point, the government plans to build a skyscraper where Carl resides. Having lived here all his life, Carl is unwilling to move, but the government intends to send this troublesome holdout to a nursing home and then slowly demolish his house. Knowing the government's next move, Carl decides it's better to leave first. He decides to take the house, which holds a lifetime of memories, on a trip!

With the pull of a bunch of colorful balloons, the entire house and its foundation lift off into the air. Carl sets off towards the land of his dreams — however, what old Carl could never have imagined was that an unexpected guest had entered the flying house. This guest is Russell, a 9-year-old chubby boy (voiced by Jordan Nagai). The boy claims he accidentally wandered in, but in reality, because he joined the Wilderness Explorers Association, he must earn a badge to become a senior member. The condition for earning this badge is to help an elderly person. Russell chose Carl, the grumpy old man, as his help target. Carl, who is not very good at communicating with people, initially does not want Russell to join him on the trip. Therefore, Carl devises many plans to try to get rid of this annoying kid from the flying house, but unexpectedly, the flying house gets caught in a storm cloud. Carl and Russell overcome this difficulty together, and Russell tells Carl that the GPS he carries will allow Carl to reach their travel destination — Paradise Falls — more accurately. Thus, the journey begins for this old man and young boy.

Unwillingly, Carl still tries various ways to kick Russell out during the trip, but none of them work. They bicker their way to South America. In the South American jungle, they meet many animals that are rarely seen in everyday life — there’s a bird with an incredibly large beak and a talking dog... They all become passengers on the flying house, traveling with Carl and Russell. As they are about to reach their destination, Paradise Falls, the grandfather and grandson encounter a greedy explorer named Charles (voiced by Christopher Plummer). Charles believes that Carl and Russell have ruined his plans, so he decides to dismantle their flying house... How will Carl and Russell get through this crisis and successfully arrive at Paradise Falls?
