Chen Ximei (played by Zheng Xi Yi), a female peasant who lost her father at a young age, has a straightforward character and is determined to fight for the people, making her deeply loved by the villagers of Liangcai County. Unfortunately, she is always overly enthusiastic and rashly impulsive, leading her to mistakenly treat the newly appointed agricultural official Xie Huangshang (played by Marco Ngai) as a thief. The two become sworn enemies, and from then on, Xie Huangshang tries to avoid Ximei for his own good.
Xie Huangshang's father, Xie Cangtian (played by Xia Yu), in order to ensure his son's smooth career, specially arranges for the highly intelligent Dai Congwen (played by Lai Yiu Cheung) to provide strategic advice. He also finds four constables - Zhou, Fen, Mian, and Fan - to protect Xie Huangshang day and night. However, Xie Huangshang is framed by corrupt officials in Changsha and nearly subjected to ten cruel tortures. Fortunately, Ximei and Congwen arrive in time, presenting the white jade bowl bestowed by the previous emperor as a pardon token. Unexpectedly, the jade bowl turns out to be fake, but Congwen uses his quick wit to save Xie Huangshang. After enduring multiple hardships together, Ximei gradually develops feelings for Xie Huangshang. However, Xie Huangshang fears complications and devises a plan with Congwen to get rid of Ximei. Unbeknownst to them, Xie Huangshang is instead pursued by a mysterious person...
