Storyline of "Beauty Grass B": Summer of 1974 in Yunnan, China. After visiting her family, Ye Xingyu (played by Shu Qi), a young intellectual from Kunming, encounters a man she'll never forget on her way back to the militia company - Liu Simeng (played by Liu Ye), an intellectual youth from Beijing across the river. Ye Xingyu's childhood sweetheart and boyfriend Yuan Dingguo (played by Fang Bin) is the platoon leader of her company. In the Hongchunping market, Yuan Dingguo and his friend Lin Shan have an intense armed conflict with Liu Simeng, leaving both Yuan Dingguo and Lin Shan injured.
The sentimental and passionate Ye Xingyu becomes the trigger for the violent clashes between the intellectuals of two companies. To quell the bloodshed, Ye Xingyu crosses the river to negotiate with Liu Simeng, only to be swept into a whirlpool of emotions. Ye Xingyu gives her long-preserved virginity to Liu Simeng in front of Yuan Dingguo. However, the scales of happiness do not tilt towards the two hearts in love. This film tells a heart-wrenching love story set against the backdrop of the life of intellectuals in the Yunnan Production and Construction Corps in the 1970s.
