[Introduction to City of Glass]

Luo Zhongtief and Zhang Wanting have projected their own experiences studying at the University of Hong Kong and the thoughts and feelings arising from the issue of '97 into the work, making it a film with both historical perspective and personal sentiment. However, the film lacks originality in its structure and packaging, often revealing traces of Western films like "The Bridges of Madison County" and Hong Kong films such as "Comrades: Almost a Love Story", which is regrettable. Leonard and Shu Qi play students of the University of Hong Kong in the 70s, originally a golden couple envied by all. Later, due to Leonard's participation in political protest movements and subsequent imprisonment, the two break up. Unexpectedly, after many years when both have already married others, they meet again. Unable to shake off the past and old feelings, they secretly resume their relationship and meet secretly, eventually dying on the streets of London when the year 97 comes. The screenwriters and directors use the process of the children of the two handling the funeral arrangements and auctioning the old home to segmentally explain the ins and outs of the plot. They also take the opportunity to contrast the sacrifice of yesterday's elite students for ideals with the frivolousness of today's university students, evoking much nostalgia. However, the Western film's classic song "Trying to Recall" is undoubtedly used too monotonously and repetitively, far from the dramatic effect of Teresa Teng's songs interspersed in "Comrades: Almost a Love Story".
