The movie you watched, "Death Experiment/Cruel Experiment," is from Shanghai Film and Television Network of China.
This film is based on the real events of 1971, namely the Stanford Prison Experiment led by American psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo. It describes a simulated prison experiment conducted by a German research institute, starring the male lead from "Run Lola Run." They recruited twenty ordinary citizens, randomly divided into two groups: eight guards and twelve prisoners, to simulate a week of prison life. Initially, everyone was laughing and joking, but later the guards began to use their power to maintain order, which then escalated to abuse of power, private punishment, venting personal emotions, and eventually the few scientists organizing the experiment were also arrested by the "guards," and the project leader was killed... On Douban, it is said that "this is a movie where the subject matter outweighs the technique, the story is very impactful, but the specific execution is just average." Another storyline in the film revolves around the story of the main male and female characters. Zimbardo put some of the experimental data online, and some video materials are for sale. The Germans made it into a movie in 2001, possibly due to its historical background, and Americans also filmed "The Stanford Prison Experiment" in 2008, though I haven't seen it yet.
