◎Introduction
This film, seen through the eyes of a border prosecutor, tells the story of immigrants from different countries seeking legal status in Los Angeles, USA. The film focuses on border checks, green card application procedures, and official document fraud, reflecting the clash between different cultures.
The United States, a place filled with hope for many people. However, you often have to pay a huge price for this hope in your heart. Some people can gain legal citizenship after a long bureaucratic process, but others find themselves not so lucky and are excluded from this country where everything has a price tag. At this point, sex, violence, and betrayal become their entire lives. Some people slowly wait in line, hoping for permission to join American nationality, while others prefer to take control into their own hands.
In the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau of Los Angeles, Max Brogan (Harrison Ford) promises the public that he will protect the country's borders and ensure that thousands of legal immigrants can find better lives. But reality is not as such. In an investigation of illegal immigrants, Max Brogan realizes that immigration issues are far more complex than he originally estimated. He and his partner Hamid Bah (Cliff Curtis) at the Immigration Bureau deal with several immigration disputes, including one case involving himself, in which he meets immigration defense lawyer Denise Frankel (Ashley Judd).
At the Immigration Bureau, Max Brogan comes into contact with all kinds of people: high school girls under FBI surveillance due to immigration-related incitement, technical workers from Mexican factories, actresses who hope to obtain green cards by selling their bodies, diligent musicians hoping to build their own careers, Korean teenagers caught between two different cultures because of their family's obsession with gaining American citizenship, and single mothers expelled from the country because of their children... As Max interacts with these people, he gradually changes his initial view of his job...
