◎Introduction:
"Empire of Silver" is a period drama reflecting the behind-the-scenes transactions between triads and police before the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in Hong Kong. Directed by Jing Wong, starring Tony Leung, Anthony Wong, Eason Chan, Yang Liu, and others.
First-time deep exposure of the biggest corruption empire scandal in Hong Kong's history!
From 1963 to 1973, during the British governance of Hong Kong, there was a dark period. At that time, police corruption was an open secret. Just in the ten years from 1963 to 1973, the amount of corruption among Hong Kong police officers reached HK$10 billion at that time, equivalent to about HK$500 billion in 2009!
As the "emperor" of the entire corrupt empire - the Chief Chinese Detective of Hong Kong, Brother Le (played by Tony Leung), he had several "poisonous snakes and fierce beasts" under his control. There were not only leaders like Pig Oil Cake (played by Jing Wong) who were responsible for connecting both the legal and illegal worlds but also ruthless detectives like Fire Kylin (played by Anthony Wong), who was addicted to gambling and could find scapegoats for various wrongful cases at critical moments. Detective Chen Xiaojiu (played by Eason Chan) was the only one among Brother Le's subordinates who still retained some moral integrity, gaining Brother Le's favor due to his excellent soccer skills.
With its vast organization and pervasive means, Brother Le and his gang lived a life of debauchery and extravagance beyond the imagination of ordinary people, using their own set of "philosophy of life" and enormous wealth to drag 99% of Hong Kong's police force into corruption.
Just when Brother Le thought he could cover the sky with one hand and live in eternal freedom, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) was established in Hong Kong. Led by the capable Yan Guoliang (played by Bowie Lam), a group of young talents were determined to eliminate all forms of corruption and restore the seriousness and purity of the Hong Kong government and police force.
Thus, a thrilling and prolonged anti-corruption war began, a deadly battle between justice and evil...
