The White House, the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument... But Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), the museum night watchman who hurriedly traveled from New York to the capital of the United States, Washington D.C., had no intention of leisurely touring these historical landmarks. Rushing off the plane and into a taxi, he headed straight for one of the largest museums in the world – the Smithsonian Institution.

As soon as Larry entered the museum, his suspicious behavior of looking around and investigating everywhere caught the attention of the Smithsonian security guard (Jonah Hill). In fact, Larry didn't come here to admire the exhibition or gain knowledge in his spare time. What made him anxious like an ant on a hot pan were the exhibits from the original American Museum of Natural History in New York with whom he shared a good rapport. These historical lives that resurrect every midnight are almost all capricious, stubborn, and troublemakers. They were mistakenly sent to their new luxurious home this time, and without Larry as the intermediary, they would surely cause chaos.

After all, it's just about stabilizing the morale of the exhibits and maintaining order which might go awry at any moment - a piece of cake for Larry.
