This film is the final restored version of the Chinese classic "Ashes of Time". The content of the film is basically the same as the original, telling the story of East Evil, West Poison, a woman, and some swordsmen who are entangled in what cannot be called love and hate.
West Poison Ou Yang Feng is a man who lives in seclusion, uninterested in worldly affairs. He resides in an endless desert, running a small shop that introduces killers to people. To him, all people and events are merely passers-by in his life. However, those who appear to be the most carefree often carry the deepest wounds in their hearts. When he was practicing on White Camel Mountain, his lover married his elder brother out of spite. Thus, he left the place where his beloved lived and exiled himself to this merciless desert. Every year during the peach blossom season, his good friend Huang Yaoshi would come to visit him.
East Evil Huang Yaoshi, though a good friend of Ou Yang Feng, remains a mystery to him. One day, Huang Yaoshi brought a jar of wine called "Drunken Life Dream Death", saying that drinking this wine would make one forget everything, thus living a life of drunkenness and dream death. After drinking half the jar, Huang Yaoshi left, leaving behind half a jar of "Drunken Life Dream Death". Soon after, Ou Yang Feng met a strange customer named Murong Yan, who fell in love with Huang Yaoshi.
