◎Introduction:

Mei Lanfang's first major competitor was the veteran artist "Yan Shisan," who had a three-generation relationship with the Mei family. Mei Lanfang's rise challenged Yan Shisan's position. The showdown was inevitable, and Mei Lanfang lost the first round, but he still had two days to turn the situation around. Despite opposition from others, Mei Lanfang decided to perform in modern costume plays, which turned out to be a great success. With the outcome already determined, Mei Lanfang advised Yan Shisan to cancel the third day's performance, but Yan Shisan refused.

As Mei Lanfang entered middle age, he had a wife, Fu Zhifang (played by Hong Chen), and adorable children. His career was at its peak. In 1929, he received an invitation to perform in the United States. Meng Xiaodong (played by Ziyi Zhang), a female artist who specialized in playing male roles in Peking Opera, saw the melancholy in Mei Lanfang's eyes upon their first meeting. Her open and cheerful personality influenced Mei Lanfang. They performed together, developing a desire to blend into each other and share everything. At this time, Mei Lanfang's wife, Fu Zhifang, told Meng Xiaodong, "He doesn't belong to you or me; he belongs to the audience."

Due to Japan's invasion of China, Mei Lanfang decided to stop performing on stage. Despite repeatedly refusing invitations from the Japanese army to perform, he was shocked to hear news of his impending return to the stage. The person who announced this news to the public was none other than Qiu Rubin (played by Honglei Sun), who remained anonymous.
