Film Reviews
The male protagonist: Kurosaki Ichigo, 15 years old, a high school student with orange short hair. Originally an ordinary high school student, he has the trait of seeing spirits. One day, he is targeted by Hollows and meets the female protagonist, the Soul Reaper Rukia Kuchiki. By chance, during their battle, Ichigo obtains Rukia's Soul Reaper powers, and thus the story unfolds naturally... Ah, I find this plot summary boring myself... The themes of Soul Reapers and collecting souls are quite cliché, and the story itself lacks the level of innovation and charm found in Furuyama's works. "BLEACH" follows a very traditional shonen manga route: battles, companions, friendship, family, rivals, and the main character continuously leveling up, unfortunate pasts... Basically, all the familiar tropes can be found in this story. However, it precisely demonstrates the tenacious vitality of the traditional shonen manga model: even without innovation, as long as the tradition is played out at its best possible level within the available range, and the balance between characters and plot is maintained, a very impressive work can be produced.
Strength 1: Art style. It must be said that the author may have been influenced by Oda and Takeuchi, with a simple and refreshing art style, well-designed characters, yet some monsters and characters give a "deja vu" feeling. Comparatively speaking, Kubo is more balanced, paying great attention to the good looks of the main characters. Moreover, I think he surpasses Oda in terms of smooth panel transitions.
