The four-panel parody comic "Little Haruhi's Melancholy," derived from the original light novel of the ultra-popular animation "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," was announced in August 2008 to be adapted into a web animation. The comic is scripted by Tanigawa Nagaru, the original author of "Haruhi," and began serialization in 2007, with the first volume of the manga being released in May 2008. At the time of the manga's release, fans' pent-up enthusiasm for the series was channeled entirely into "Little Haruhi" due to the lack of updates on the second season of the anime after its announcement a year prior, as well as the over one-year delay of the tenth volume of the original light novel, "The Astonishment of Haruhi Suzumiya." As a result, the first volume of the manga quickly sold out despite multiple emergency reprints, unable to meet the high demand. Feeling that the plot is too slow? Click here to read the comic.
