Xu Yan, the famous dubbing director and actor of Changchun Film Studio who was known as "China's Paul Corchkin", passed away at 8 PM on the 22nd in Changchun due to illness, at the age of 79. He once dubbed for Paul in "Paul Corchkin", Yulin in "Nameless Hero", and the main characters in famous films such as "The Captain's Daughter" and "The Virgin Lands". He also directed 35 foreign-dubbed films including "Love under the Umbrella", "Searching for Spies in Devil's Lair", "Cost of Conspiracy", and "Storms of the Shogunate". Among them, "Searching for Spies in Devil's Lair" and "Cost of Conspiracy" once won the Excellent Foreign-Dubbed Film Award from the National Radio, Film and Television Department.

As Xu Yan's eldest son, Xu Hongyan, the famous sound engineer of Changchun Film Studio is still immersed in the pain of losing his loved one. Xu Hongyan said that his father's atrial fibrillation was very severe, but it had improved significantly in the past year. "On the evening of the 22nd, my father attended a birthday dinner for an old friend. Because he was overly excited to see old friends and classmates he hadn't seen for a long time, he suddenly suffered a heart attack and passed away. His passing was really too sudden for our whole family." Xu Hongyan described his father as having a hearty character, being a great and kind father. "I will carry on his legacy and continue to work hard for the film industry."

"Teacher Xu Yan devoted his whole life to China's film dubbing industry," said Rong Zhendong, his good friend and former director of the Dubbing Division of Changchun Film Studio, when interviewed by our reporter. He was shocked by the news. "I met him while taking a walk in the courtyard of the residential area before the Spring Festival. We chatted briefly about his health and life, and he said there was nothing serious. I didn't expect..." Rong Zhendong gave high praise for Xu Yan. "His voice was as upright as his person. He was dedicated to his craft, responsible, and conscientious in his work. In my memory, he participated in dubbing and directing nearly 500 foreign-dubbed films." Rong Zhendong said, "Xu Yan started his dubbing career in 1951 and retired in October 2003. Even after retirement, he did not completely leave his post and often returned to Changchun Film Studio to teach young dubbing actors. Famous dubbing actors like Hu Lianhua, Lu Jianyi, and Wang Rui were all his outstanding students during his lifetime." It is reported that Teacher Xu Yan's funeral will be held tomorrow morning.
