Su Xing, who was born in 1984 into an intellectual family in Xi'an, had a father who was a well-known Confucian businessman locally and a mother, Ms. Miao Niya, who graduated from the Mathematics Department of Shaanxi Normal University and later worked in the Youth League Committee of the university. At the age of 16, Su Xing went to study in Sydney, Australia as arranged by his parents. On April 13, 2007, he returned from Sydney to Xi'an to participate in the preliminary selection. The judges initially thought Su Xing was quite average, but directly gave him the opportunity to perform a dance. The director believed that the authenticity and naturalness in Su Xing were relatively in line with the definition of "Happy Boy", so he was given a place among the top 50. On May 13, 2007, Su Xing narrowly lost to Chu Sheng by a margin of 6-7, but eventually entered the final PK with Chen Chusheng due to having the highest number of text votes outside the venue. Ultimately, Su Xing defeated Chen Chusheng with 65,814 votes against Chen's 53,713 votes, winning the championship of the Xi'an singing district. Meanwhile, Su Xing secured the 6th spot to advance to the national top 12 of "Happy Boy". On July 20 of the same year, after a concert-like competition, Su Xing won the runner-up title in the 2007 "Happy Boy" competition, while Chen Chusheng won the championship of the year's "Happy Boy" competition.
