In the 1980s, Vans took a detour. The decision-makers of the company got carried away and started to design and manufacture various types of sports shoes, including football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, boxing, and even parachuting. However, Vans soon paid the price. Since each series of sports shoes required different production lines, and Vans set up factories in the United States instead of Asia where labor costs were low, Vans' series of expansions announced failure.
