At 9 p.m. on March 25, Wanglu Garden Police Station in Changsha City carried out a routine security check in its jurisdiction. The policemen found that there were people taking drugs in a room on the third floor of a chain hotel, so they investigated the people in the room. Meanwhile, another group of policemen unexpectedly found at the hotel front desk that one suspect of the room opened another room next to it with his own name. When the policemen asked the service staff to open the room, they found that a person was lying in bed and "swallowing clouds and spitting fog". The policemen felt familiar with the man in front of them. After checking his identity, it was confirmed that the man was Xie Dong, a singer who had been exposed by the media for taking drugs. The policemen also confiscated about 10 grams of ice drug from him (later identified by the public security criminal investigation department as less than ten grams). In the early morning of the next day, the police decided to administratively detain Xie Dong for 15 days.
