Original Lead Actor Andy Whitfield
Sina Entertainment News, January 18th, according to foreign media reports, Starz announced on Monday that Australian actor Liam McIntyre, who played a role in the HBO miniseries "The Pacific", will replace Andy Whitfield in the new season of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" to play the character Spartacus.
After the original lead actor Whitfield was forced to give up the role of Spartacus due to suffering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the 28-year-old McIntyre will take his place in the new season. Starz had no choice but to suspend the production of the series last March. After a recurrence of cancer, Whitfield had to abandon this role and actively engage in recovery treatment.
For the new season of "Spartacus", Starz is very confident in recreating the brilliance of the first season. "Since no one can truly replace Andy, we realized that we should find an actor who can really drive this series," said Chris Albrecht, president of Starz. "It's very important for us that Andy agrees with someone else to recreate this role. And he is also bravely fighting all the challenges he faces in the same way. In terms of appearance, McIntyre does bear some resemblance to Whitfield. But whether he can capture Whitfield's essence and whether the audience will accept him can only be answered after the new series is broadcast.
