**Early Experiences**

Shen Yongge was born in Beijing in 1961, and his stepfather changed his name to "Yongge," meaning "forever revolutionary."

Shen Yongge grew up in a blended family, spending most of his time with his grandmother. Under her indulgence, he became particularly mischievous and playful. During junior high and high school, Shen entered a rebellious phase of adolescence. Growing long hair, wearing sunglasses, playing the guitar, and sporting bell-bottom pants... he did all the things considered unconventional at the time. His extreme rebellion even led him to successfully disguise himself and sneak into places like the Beijing Hotel and the Beijing International Club, which were off-limits to ordinary people at the time. These experiences sparked Shen's curiosity about the outside world, planting the idea in his mind to go out and explore. Shen once enthusiastically accompanied his family as they sent his brother off to work in rural areas during the Cultural Revolution. Later, he noticed that his brother would come home unusually hungry each time. Fortunately, by the time it was Shen's turn, the Cultural Revolution had ended, and there was no longer a need to work in the countryside. In 1976, due to the Tangshan earthquake, schools were suspended. It wasn't until 1978 when the national college entrance exam was restored that Shen joined a cram school to prepare for university. That year, he applied to Jinan University because he heard it was a university for overseas Chinese students. However, he failed to get in and spent another year in cram school. In 1979, Shen was admitted to Beijing Architectural Engineering Design College to study architecture. However, once in university, Shen quickly lost interest in everything. He felt this wasn't what he wanted to learn or the life he desired. Not long after entering university, Shen dropped out and became an unemployed youth, also known as a "little thug" at the time.
