The "Dangerous" (Dangerous Journey) world tour broke the record of his "Bad" tour and became the largest concert in history (Michael's later "History" tour then broke the record set by the "Dangerous" tour).
The "Dangerous" world tour consisted of 69 shows, attracting 3.5 million fans to attend.
Michael donated all the income from the "Dangerous" tour to his own "Heal the World Foundation" and many other charities.
Michael sold the live broadcast rights of the "Dangerous" concert in Bucharest (Romania) to HBO (Home Box Office) cable television for £12 million, setting the highest record for live concert broadcasting fees. This concert special also set the highest viewership record in the history of cable television networks for HBO (21.4% viewership rating, 34% household rating). Michael thus received the "Cable Ace Award".
The Bucharest concert on October 1st, 1992 was broadcast live on radio and television in 61 countries around the world. Andy Morahan, who directed the music video for "Give In To Me", employed more than 14 cameramen for filming during this concert.
During the "Dangerous" tour, Michael regularly performed "I Just Can’t Stop Loving You" live with his partner Siedah Garrett.
On October 30th, 1992, when the "Dangerous" tour arrived at the Tokyo Dome Stadium in Japan, renowned guitarist Slash made a special guest appearance for the song "Black Or White." He joined Michael again for a performance at the "Tokyo New Year's Eve Countdown Special Concert" on December 31st, 1992. On that night, Michael wished all his fans "Happy New Year" in the dressing room.
During the "Dangerous" tour, while performing "She’s Out Of My Life," a lucky girl was always chosen to go on stage and dance with Michael.
For the backstage staff, the "Dangerous" tour was also a massive and highly challenging project - transporting millions of dollars worth of performance equipment quickly into many underdeveloped or technologically deficient countries. The stage had to be built within three days, and freight planes carried equipment equivalent to the load of 20 trucks flying from one country to another.
The opening (Michael being launched onto the stage amidst fireworks) and the closing (Michael leaving the stage using a "flying pack") of each concert frequently made the headlines of newspapers worldwide.
The "Dangerous" world tour achieved significant breakthroughs, particularly making the music industry realize that Asia would soon become a huge and attractive market. Michael Jackson was the first superstar to conduct a tour in the Asian region, so everything he brought was studied as a typical example by experts. For instance, pirated goods accounted for 98% of the domestic music market in Thailand. At the time, the legitimate version of *Dangerous* sold 30,000 copies in Thailand, while the pirated versions sold 80,000 copies. Only after Thailand implemented restrictive measures before Michael's concert did the legitimate version of *Dangerous* sell up to 120,000 copies.
