Korea has 26.1 people committing suicide among every 100,000, exceeding Japan (20.3) where the culture of suicide is prevalent. This figure dropped to 21.5 in 2007, which was still twice as much as the average suicide rate of the member countries of an organization (OECD). Korea is by no means undeserving of its nickname "the country of suicide". In the Korean entertainment circle, however, suicide events continue to increase, especially in recent years.
