Li Wei, the first Chinese performance artist, was born in Hubei Province, China on September 5, 1970. He studied oil painting at the Beijing Oriental Academy of Arts and Culture in 1993 and currently resides in Beijing. The first time I saw Li Wei's works, I was shocked and attracted by these vivid pictures. Unlike many people, I didn't question their authenticity first. Instead, I carefully appreciated each one without much understanding. It seemed as if I could see the sensitivity and calmness in his heart, and also the helplessness he felt towards life...

The most prominent feature of Li Wei's work and artistic career is its individuality and uniqueness. What I like is his "Chinese-style" uniqueness. Uncovering concealed truths is a typically Chinese behavior. In today’s society, there is no direct expression between people; everything is non-frank, implied, reflected, and always unclear. Li Wei has precisely broken through all these so-called glories and constraints.
