Joni Sternbach, an American female photographer with over 40 years of photography experience, uses a large-format camera combined with the 19th-century photographic technique of collodion wet plate to shoot this series of surfers. Each session's preparation and film development is completed on-site, allowing both her and her subjects to see the results immediately after shooting. The on-site developing process enables Joni Sternbach to communicate with her subjects, and the outdoor chemical processing can also bring unexpected effects. Photographs made using the wet plate method have a yellowish, aged appearance, as if transporting one back to the previous century.
