Leonard Nimoy, who gained fame through the Star Trek television series and animated feature films, has been a lifelong photographer. His work has been widely exhibited and is in collections around the world. Regarding the theme of his project "The Full Body", he says, "More than 25% of American women are overweight. Thus weight loss for these women becomes a big business and a potent fantasy for many." The women in this portfolio, however, are involved in what is called "body liberation" and "size acceptance" activities which challenge the dominant ideal female form as it appears in the media and art.
