In the Brooklyn area of New York in the 1960s, a 20-year-old Robert Mapplethorpe met a girl of his age named Patti Smith. The former was a student studying painting and sculpture, while the latter was a rock youth who worked part-time jobs while writing poetry and singing songs. They lived together for a period of time that wasn't short. Robert Mapplethorpe once gave Patti Smith a wedding ring and told his parents that they were already married.
