Have you seen the far side of the moon? The clearest pictures ever are now available.

If you're lucky, when you look up at the night sky, you may see a big and round moon. But have you ever seen the far side of the moon? The side that is basically not visible from Earth is shown in the above picture.

This image was composed using more than 15,000 wide-angle camera (WAC) photos taken by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) between November 2009 and February 2011. A research group from Arizona State University pieced these pictures together. This composite image is the most complete topographic map of the far side of the moon we've ever seen, and it will provide the scientific community with a valuable resource. It is a truly spectacular sight." Selenology is the study of how the moon and its surface features form, including craters, mountains and other terrain characteristics.
