The magnitude-8.8 earthquake (measured as 8.6 by the China Earthquake Administration) that occurred yesterday in the sea of northeast Japan and the tsunami it triggered have so far caused the death of at least 500 people, with a large number of people injured or missing. It's still unclear whether there are any casualties among Chinese citizens.
