Jiang Qing can be said to be the most influential woman in mainland Chinese politics after 1949! Jiang Qing was an actress in her early years, though not particularly famous, she was bold in her ways.
An article from ETtoday News Cloud mentions that Jiang Qing (stage name Lan Ping) once worked as a nude model for the renowned mainland Chinese painter Liu Haisu. Despite the turmoil of war, one surviving nude sketch still exists, offering a glimpse into her youthful physique and appearance.
Liu Haisu was a celebrated art educator in modern China who was labeled as a "counter-revolutionary" during the Cultural Revolution and suffered greatly as a result. In 1912, he co-founded the first modern art school in China, the "Shanghai Guohua Academy of Fine Arts" (the precursor to the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts), with like-minded individuals. Due to conservative social customs at the time, only boys were initially hired as models. It wasn't until July 20, 1920, that they finally managed to hire a female model, Chen Xiaojun, into the studio. This was a taboo subject in those conservative times, and many figures from the arts community and moral guardians harshly criticized it.
