Highlights from the 2013 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest

This photo was taken in Spain's Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. In the small meadow fish pond, there are freshwater algae that survive on a small amount of nutrients. These algae grow together with herbaceous plants, and when the small pond freezes, it forms a fascinating compound. Here we see frozen bubbles and lines formed on the thawing ice.
