John Thomson began his journey in China in 1868, documenting the landscapes, portraits, and street life of cities in places like Fujian, Zhejiang, and Beijing at that time. Ahead of the upcoming photography exhibition of John Thomson's works, we were fortunate to obtain these precious pieces第一时间 and have carefully selected the most representative portraits and lifestyle photos of officials, women, and common people from over 150 works. We also invited photography critic Bao Kun to analyze and interpret these images, hoping that these photographs will provide readers with a perspective to review Chinese history. In the next issue, we will publish the landscape photos taken by John Thomson in various places.
