On April 22, 2008, Unitrans, a global professional language service provider, officially signed a contract with Sohu.com, China's largest portal website, to assist the internet sponsor of the Olympics in handling the translation work for the official website of the 2008 Beijing Olympics (www.beijing2008.cn) in English, French, Arabic, and Spanish.
Currently, all Unitrans translators have been stationed at the Olympic Tower or Sohu.com. Before August, they will mainly translate news reports related to the Olympics (major events, official announcements, etc.), while from August to September, they will focus on translating competition information (such as match results, sports stars, competition progress, etc.).
The Beijing Olympics provide a rare leap opportunity for the translation industry. In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Unitrans Marketing Center moved into Tian Chuang Shi Yuan on the northeast side of the Bird's Nest stadium in the Olympic Village in April 2008. Since 2007, the recruitment of 100 translators for lesser-known languages, 100 for German, 100 for French, 200 for Japanese, 200 for Korean, 300 for Russian, and 1000 for English has come to an end.
As a large translation company in the Olympic Village, Unitrans not only provides professional language services to official organizations and sponsors but also offers translation services to 800,000 inbound tourists and media reporters worldwide. We are ready for the Olympics!
