The Mo knife in Tang knives was equipped as an important military material, and during the middle of the Tang Dynasty, it was strictly prohibited to be privately made or hidden by civilians. Its inheritance should be traced back to the long swords of the Han Dynasty (in Han, a type of long sword called "Duanma Sword" existed, which was likely a two-handed long sword). The Han long swords unearthed so far have reached over 140 centimeters in length. It can be inferred that after the development during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it evolved into a two-edged long knife with a longer handle designed for two-handed use. To date, no physical artifacts have been unearthed according to archaeological records. The "Diao Dao" and "three-pointed double-edged knife" depicted in the Song Dynasty's "Wujing Zongyao" might be the direct successors of the Tang Mo knife.
