A 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in the boundary area between Dujiangyan and Pengzhou yesterday afternoon. It was an aftershock of the Wenchuan earthquake, and Chengdu had obvious tremors.
This earthquake is still an aftershock of the Wenchuan earthquake, and it is on the same fault zone, namely the Longmenshan fault zone. After the major earthquake occurred, strong aftershocks will continue for a period of time, but the interval between strong aftershocks will become longer and longer. In the three months before this occurred, the Chengdu area did not have any strong aftershocks.
This 5.0-magnitude earthquake is the largest magnitude earthquake that has occurred in Chengdu since the beginning of this year, and it is also the first 5-magnitude earthquake. According to the Sichuan Earthquake Network measurement, at 14:11 yesterday, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in the boundary area between Dujiangyan and Pengzhou (latitude 31.1 north, longitude 103.7 east), and Chengdu, Meishan and other places felt the tremor. The Provincial Seismological Bureau immediately activated the earthquake emergency response plan, organized experts for urgent seismic analysis consultations, and dispatched the field working group at 14:50 to investigate the seismic conditions in the affected area.
The Chengdu-Dujiangyan high-speed railway stopped operation for more than two hours. At 14:11 yesterday, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in the boundary area between Dujiangyan City and Pengzhou City, causing the Chengdu-Dujiangyan high-speed railway passing through the affected area to stop operating for two hours, and four trains were suspended.
According to relevant personnel from the North Railway Station, after the earthquake occurred, in order to ensure the safe operation of the high-speed rail and the safety of passengers, the railway department immediately activated the emergency response plan, and the Chengdu-Dujiangyan high-speed rail immediately stopped operating throughout the line. The railway maintenance department mobilized personnel and machinery to inspect the entire line. By 4 p.m. yesterday, the line inspection was completed, and the earthquake did not cause any damage to the railway line. At 16:20, the Chengdu-Dujiangyan high-speed rail gradually resumed operation.
