Atlantis, also transliterated as Atlanthis (in Greek: Ατλαντις), is mentioned in ancient Mexican manuscripts preserved in the Vatican City (also known as the Vatican Manuscripts) and in works of the Indigenous civilization of Mexico that have survived to this day. These sources contain similar narratives: "There were four generations of humanity that existed on Earth at different times. The first generation consisted of giants who perished due to hunger. The second generation was destroyed by massive fires. The third generation was hominins who were wiped out as a result of mutual annihilation. Later, there emerged a fourth generation of humans, those in the 'Sun and Water' phase, and the civilization of this stage of humanity was also destroyed..."
